Level 1 Certificate in Introduction to the Facilities Industry – Waste and Recycling
It is for candidates who are new to the industry and need to have a good basic understanding of different places of work, job roles and the importance of team work and communication; health and safety legislation and be able to follow safe working practices across the facilities industry; the importance of hygienic practices in the prevention and control of contamination and cross infection and, introduces the candidate to the procedures for accepting, collecting, removing and disposing of waste and recyclable materials. Candidates are required to know safe working practices when clearing waste and operating equipment and vehicles.

Qualification Structure
(Trainees can take the full qualification of 100 hours (2 weeks) or individual units on request)
Health, safety and security in the facilities industry 20 hours (3 days)
- Know relevant health and safety legislation for working in the facilities industry
- Know how to work safely in the facilities industry
- Be able to work safely in the facilities industry
- Know how to maintain safety and security in the facilities industry
Workplace hygiene in the facilities industry 15 hours (2 days)
- Know why it is important to keep clean and hygienic in the workplace
- Know the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) within the facilities industry
- Know how to prevent and control contamination and cross-infection within the facilities industry
Introduction to working in the facilities industry 15 hours (2 days)
- Know about employment in the facilities industry
- Know how to work as part of a team
Waste and recycling 40 hours (6 days)
- Know how to accept and collect waste and recyclable materials
- Be able to remove and dispose of waste
- Know how to work safely
- Know how to operate waste and recycling equipment and vehicles safely
